What's obvious to you isn't obvious to anyone else

Eyooo friend!

So quick life update:

A little too late, upsie.

First week in the Sri Lanka Founder House flew by.

This Sunday, we did a proper offline day. There's just something about it. No phone, no laptops. Not even while riding around on scooters. Just living in the moment the whole day.

During the week everyone is dialed in. Next week I will share more stuff. :)

Couple of thoughts

I

This week something became very clear to me.

Clear communication and setting concrete boundaries really saves you a lot.

Because in your head, things are obvious. The expectations, the rules, how things should go. It all makes sense up there.

But it's not obvious for everyone else.

And when you don't make it explicit people will naturally fill in the gaps themselves. Not out of bad intention. Just because you never made it clear.

For example with the founder retreat in Lombok. I made a quick explanation video quickly touching on schedule, thought everyone would be on the same page. Still people came in with different expectations. And then it becomes about managing all of that after the fact.

It’s will feel like over communicating to you but you have to do that if you want everyone to be on the same page.

Also it’s so easing not setting clear boundaries. One I see lot is regarding payment deadlines (including myself). It's easy to be chill about it upfront. But then you end up having to chase the money yourself. Not so chill anymore.

These things you learn through experience. That's just how it goes.

But worth sitting with:

Are there areas in your life right now where things are not communicated clearly to others? A collaboration, a client relationship etc.

Everyone has moments of doubt. Periods where they feel overwhelmed. Where they just don't feel well. Just keep going :)

You have this quote by James clear: You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of the systems.

But living in these founder houses made me realize something that makes me wants to rewrite this:

‘‘You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of the people around you.’’

Some bits of inspo
