The best methods for learning effectively

Interleaving: mix different topics/problems instead of massed practice.

Spaced Repetition: review material at increasing intervals to strengthen memory.

Active Recall: test yourself by retrieving knowledge instead of re-reading.

Elaboration: connect new info to what you already know.

Dual Coding: combine words with visuals (diagrams, mindmaps).

Concrete Examples: apply abstract ideas to real situations.

Teaching: explaining to someone else is the ultimate test of mastery.

System I built to learn books more deeply, based on the learning methods.
(Not saying I follow it every time hehe)

#0 Read different books at once (Interleaving)

#1 While reading, highlight + take notes in your own words (elaboration & concrete examples). Bonus tip: before starting reading again, recall the last chapter’s key idea.

#2 After finishing a book, summarize straight from memory, then fill in gaps using your highlights/notes (active recall & spaced repetition)

Bonus tip: do it in Notion with dropdowns for extra recall practice.

#3 Create a visual mindmap in Miro/Figma. Keep adding concepts and connect dots across books (elaboration, dual coding & concrete examples)

#4 Explain the book to a friend (teaching)

#5 After 2-4 weeks, write another summary from memory (spaced repetition & active recall)

Bonus bonus tip: try out Readwise

This app collects your highlights from books and articles, then lets you chat with them through AI.

Crazy helpful if you have a kindle/kobo. Try it for free here.
